[ HOW WE STARTED ]

MEET THE OWNER

I began my career working in horticulture in the summer of 1979, working for a Paul Butler co-owned landscape company. I started learning how to operate a 21” push mower, line trimmer and planting trees, mulching, and picking up garbage and cigarette butts on properties, along with snow removal. Through college, I worked the summers and eventually 5 years later, I was running a satellite location for the same company out of Chicago.

After this venture, I went to Vaughan Seed (oldest largest horticultural company in USA) to be an assistant manager of the family’s only retail, full-service garden center. In my second year with the company, I became manager and was able to take the center from the red and move to the black.

A few years later, I went to The Brickman Group, Ltd to staff the operation’s of there first full branch and I became the operation manager for the maintenance and enhancement crews in Chicago. During my time in Chicago, I staffed operations for another branch and was soon promoted to account manager and transferred to Libertyville, and sold 2 million in my short time at that office.

After my time at The Brickman Group, I worked at Moore Landscape to build their commercial office in Chicago. This required working on the field and recruiting staff, as well as volunteering on various committees in Chicago to help build the business.

This job led to working with Maggie Daley on her programs and on one committee I came up with a tulip named after her in her color, working with the Dutch grower DeVoormen and the Dutch consultant to bring this vision to life. The presentation of the tulip to Maggie Daley was covered nationally by NBC in front of the John Hancock tower.

Eventually all of this led to the creation of Landcraft Design, LLC in 2016. After decades in the industry all that I learned, experienced, developed, and performed for others I was now able to do for myself and my own company. I believe in character, principles and best practices with relationships and workmanship to make Landcraft Design, LLC the best.

When I’m not on a job site or meeting with clients, I enjoy being a grandfather of two, riding my Harley, boating, and love doing anything outdoors.

I hope this gives a good picture of the level of experience and expertise that myself and the Landcraft Design team can bring to your next project! We look forward to serving you for all your commercial landscaping needs.
